Not just the money: what today’s workers really want

Employee expectations are constantly evolving. Increasing importance is placed on flexibility, sustainability and meaningful work. And while financial compensation remains one of the most important factors contributing to job satisfaction and loyalty, it is by no means the only one. Recognition for effort and work well done

Most employees are willing to work responsibly and contribute more than the bare minimum. However, they will do so only if they receive proper recognition. As a manager, you must remember to notice and acknowledge the efforts and achievements of your team members.

Tolerance of individual needs and personal life

Employees want their company and supervisors to recognise the fact they have a personal life and individual needs. In other words, they expect understanding and flexibility. So managers should try to offer maximum space for personalised time management and work organisation.

Opportunity to work independently

No one appreciates being constantly watched over the shoulder by their supervisor. Today’s workers dislike this even more than previous generations. If you attempt to apply micromanagement to your team, you are unlikely to build a loyal workforce.

Education and development

Not every employee desires to pursue lifelong learning; however, most of them do and these people expect their employer to support and enable their growth. Therefore, you should never neglect the long-term and effective development of your team members.
