Heineken anniversary bottle will be designed by its FB fans

Dutch beer manufacturer will use its Facebook page to select the creative concept of its anniversary bottles. Anyone can download the design application. After the download, they will receive a brief manual asking for a design depicting connecting people over the next 140 years. The proposed design is then uploaded to an online gallery where the user has to find another one to create a pair. Only two matched proposals can enter the contest.

Mark van Iterson, head of the global design, says that since 1873 the brewery positions itself as a brand that brings people together. Therefore, the company wants to take this route in the future as well, when the whole world is connected through social networks.

Proposals submitted before 31 January 2012 will be evaluated by a panel and the winning team will see their design on the bottles which come on the market in December 2012. The competition was developed by the creative agency AKQA Amsterdam.
