Do you want your press release to succeed? Don't forget the basic submission rules!

There are clear rules for submitting a press release, but many people seem to constantly forget them. However, the way you send out your initial e-mail may affect the success of your press release more than the story itself. Let's look at the most mistakes.

  1. Pushing too much. Even if your news is the most important in the world, for journalists it is and will be one of many that are in their inbox. Take into account that they are under pressure. If you call them at a time when the whole staff gets crazy due to some unexpected events, you will probably not cause positive emotions. Your next e-mail will go straight into the trash.
  2. Proper timing. Wrong timing means failure of news. Do not send press releases too much advance - people forget about them. Choose carefully the time of day - when a message arrives early in the morning, it probably falls into a flood of mails from the night before. Rather try a less busy hour.
  3. Follow the guidelines. Some outlets require the news in an attachment, others prefer them in the body of e-mail messages. Either way, if you do not follow instructions, you will cause them extra work when editing your news.
  4. Beware of accurate contact information. Journalists do not really have time to waste, so if they want a change, they will contact you. If they do not get sufficient resources, they will leave it and continue with other work. They are not likely to investigate. Therefore, in addition to your name, include your e-mail address, phone number, website and the real address.
