What causes the biggest damage to brands on social media? Poor grammar!

Social media are spontaneous environment, so this finding may seem surprising to a number of marketers: according to a July study by Disruptive Communications, poor spelling or grammar represent the number one damage of reputation on social media from customers' perspective.

The British study asked respondents what in their opinion is most likely to damage brands on social media. Poor grammar or spelling ranked as number one. Full 42.5% respondents were bothered, both men and women. Informal language is fine, people are not pedants. But good grammar or spelling do matter to them.

Too strong sales pressure in posts bothers almost a quarter of respondents. Less than 13% are bothered by too many posts by a brand, resp. too much effort to be funny. Too little activity on social media damages the brand in the eyes of 7.2% of those who participated in this survey.
