Whether you work in marketing, PR or sales, presentation skills are important for your job. One part of it is quality content, however, the non-verbal part of the presentation is equally important. That decides whether your words will be perceived by your audience and to what extent. In your next public speaking, try to use the following 10 tips.

  1. Eye contact. Without it, you quickly lose your audience's attention.
  2. A smile helps create a pleasant atmosphere throughout the auditorium.
  3. An open position with your back straight, open chest and arms boosts your confidence (and invokes the same feeling in the eyes of the audience).
  4. Small gestures and calm attitude evokes authority.
  5. To shift the focus somewhere, point in that direction and look there yourself.
  6. To convince the audience, positive gestures such as smiling, nodding and open movements throughout the presentation will help.
  7. Your talk will have more energy if you walk a little. When listing several points, try to walk few steps before moving to the next point.
  8. Change gestures throughout the presentation. Sometimes use stronger elements - this will help to keep attention of the audience.
  9. To engage the audience, use open gestures and try to step closer to the people, i.e., reduce the distance.
  10. When you answer a question, look the questioner in the eyes. Take time to think by taking a slow breath.
