2 things you must do to make the (potential) client remember you

There is a large number of companies offering a certain kind of product in every sector. The same goes for the overall number of sales reps out there. Competition is tough, and if someone sticks out, they have a head start with clients (if they “stick out” in a positive way, that is).

Here are two things you must do to distinguish yourself from other salespeople, and to make clients remember you forever.

Don't sell, just give advice and help

According to INC.com, many people would define a salesperson as someone who simply sells anything to anybody for any price. This stereotype is, unfortunately, what a lot of clients think, though, fortunately, reality is different. Another important function of a sales rep is the ability to provide consultation to customers. But you need to go a step further.

Help clients selflessly, give them advice, and in certain cases, don't even sell. If you find out that the prospect isn't a qualified lead (for instance because of a limited budget or needs that are not covered by your product), don't drive them away. Advise them on what they should do, and who they should talk to. In the future, the prospect's situation might change and then he / she might think of you.

Do not be afraid to be a little “weird”

A traditional, conventional way of offering services and selling is a thing you see every day, but people like changes and innovative attitudes. If you are different in any way, and you are a little “weird” in a positive way, clients will appreciate it.

You have to come up with what makes you stand out, keeping in mind the sector you're engaged in. It should be rooted in your personality. Be honest and let your character manifest itself. It should be a trait which is true, and really comes from within yourself. People appreciate honesty because it makes them believe that you aren't hiding anything from them. So don't be afraid to let your personality and uniqueness show.
