In order for a salesperson to be able to sell a solution to a prospect the client has to trust salesperson and like them. Generally speaking, we all like people who listen and are interested in us. This is why the salesperson must learn to listen to a client. First of all to show them that you are interested in them, and secondly so that you get to know as much information as possible about them so that you can propose a tailor-made solution.
